Marvel’s Double Dragon limited series was based on the super-cool video game franchise and stars the brothers Jimmy and Billy Lee, experienced martial artists. This comic series introduced their father, Stan. You heard me right. Stan … Lee. So, interestingly enough, the father of the Double Dragon brothers is Stan Lee … and get this, he knows KUNG FU, too! Not sure if this is part of the video game canon – but it’s a fun bit of trivia.

In 1996, DC Comics and Marvel Comics decided to merge their two universes into one to create Amalgam Comics. They released a set of twelve one-shots that focused on these new characters which were created by combining a Marvel character with one from DC. One of these new characters was Dark Claw (a merger between Wolverine and Batman). In his comic, the Hyena (an amalgam of the Joker and Sabretooth) fills Air Force One with poisonous gas in an attempt to kill the President of the United States of America. That President? Bill Clinton!

In the 1990s, the “bad girl” genre of comics exploded and publishers like Chaos! Comics, High Impact and Lightning Comics sprang up to take advantage of its popularity. Another such company was London Night Studios, publisher of Razor, Strike and Poizon.

The cover of the second issue of Poizon: Cadillacs and Green Tomatoes displays the title character in a police line-up alongside basketballer Dennis Rodman (in drag), shock-jockey Howard Stern and comedian Chris Farley (who was still alive at the time of publication).

Over the years, the Three Stooges have appeared in well over 175 short films. They’ve had many different line-ups, consisting of at least six different actors, yet their “look” has become iconic. Diebold #1 (A Silent Partner’s Production from 1994) features three “stoogey” looking characters searching for the legendary Crown of Creation. The stooges even go so far as to engage in some eye-poking and head-bonking, to further establish their identities. Here’s a panel from the comic:
