Whether done intentionally or even underhandedly, there&#8217;s something about uncovering these &#8220;swipes&#8221; that adds a new element of fun to reading and collecting comics.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>1979 saw the release of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000338\/\">Francis Ford Coppola<\/a>&#8216;s Vietnam War film, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0078788\/\">Apocalypse Now<\/a>, starring <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0000008\/\">Marlon Brando <\/a>and a host of other movie stars. After the success of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ninjaturtles.com\">Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles<\/a>, many &#8220;rip-offs&#8221; began to crop up in the mid 1980s. The most successful of these imitation books was the <em>Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters<\/em>. Spinning out of their main title, came the two issue mini series <em>Clint<\/em>. Both issues featured a &#8220;swipe&#8221; cover, the second one biting off <strong>Apocalypse Now<\/strong>. And, In 2002, continuing with his experimental art style, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kaareandrews.com\/\">Kaare Andrews<\/a> payed tribute to the film with his cover to <em>the Incredible Hulk<\/em> vol.
