After looking at hundreds of comic book covers, it becomes quickly apparent that not every cover is 100% original. Whether done intentionally or even underhandedly, there’s something about uncovering these “swipes” that adds a new element of fun to reading and collecting comics.<\/font><\/p>\n

Megaton <\/em>is one of those truly influential and important indy titles. The lead feature was an afrocentric hero named Megaton <\/strong>by Gary Carlson <\/strong>& Mike Gustovich<\/strong>. There were many back-up features in the series, which could almost be called an anthology. Carlson’s Berzerker <\/em>was illustrated by Angel Medina (early in his career), underground artist Grass Green <\/strong>provided Wildman <\/em> strips and Rob Liefeld <\/strong>debuted the look of Youngblood <\/strong>(years before #1 was published by Image). Erik Larsen <\/strong>debuted his Vanguard <\/em>character in a strip that went on to introduce many other characters that he’d later use including Mighty Man <\/strong>and the Savage Dragon<\/strong>. Although the Dragon debuted in an issue #2 cameo, his first main (and cover) appearance took place in issue #3.<\/p>\n
