Each Saturday, <a href=\"http:\/\/donny-b.deviantart.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Donny B<\/a> will be showcasing various offerings from Art Asylum&#8217;s take on the &#8216;block figure&#8217;, with a weekly spotlight on <em><strong>Minimates<\/strong><\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Longevity in the toy market often necessitates growth and experimentation. Over the years, Art Asylum has managed to\u00a0infuse a steady progression of new ideas and tweaks into their approach toward Minimate design, essentially breathing new life into their releases.<br \/>\nFew characters provide a better comparison for this concept than Wolverine &#8211;\u00a0especially when you contrast the release of his classic yellow and blue costume\u00a0in the <em>Giant Sized X-Men Boxed Set <\/em>back in 2004 with the retooled approach\u00a0of the same costume in <em>Marvel Wave 28<\/em> in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Last week&#8217;s image centered attention\u00a0on the original\u00a0Minimate of Wolverine&#8217;s iconic look.\u00a0That\u00a0focus is\u00a0brought to fruition here\u00a0by displaying the evolved product that 5 years of AA&#8217;s artistic tweaking has produced:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/cyberspacecomics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Minimates_2010_07-31.jpg\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1917\" src=\"http:\/\/cyberspacecomics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Minimates_2010_07-31.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"486\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cyberspacecomics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Minimates_2010_07-31.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cyberspacecomics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Minimates_2010_07-31-300x243.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Behind the Image:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Again, like last week,\u00a0I wanted to produce an image that was decidedly photoshopped. This time, however, I wanted less of a &#8220;graphic design&#8221; look and more of a solid and slightly epic look.<br \/>\nFrom the beginning I imagined the compliment of\u00a0Jim Lee&#8217;s masterful artwork behind the Minimate itself, but it was only through experimentation that I stumbled on the idea of fog to complete the overall feel of the image.
