Ebay’s latest promotion has inflated the market pool yet again, leading to a 5% increase.

AtomicAvenue has begun to address the issue of sellers that are permanently on vacation. These abandoned storefronts have been removed from the market pool – which is why the number of listings have dropped by 5%.

Throughout the entire month of March, eBay offered free auction listings to eBay store suscribers. That’s why the auction market is at 10% of the total market, as opposed to the normal rate of 5 to 6%.

Now that eBay has stopped offering free auction listings days on a weekly basis, the market isn’t flooded anymore and prices have stabilized. Of course, they still offer 50 free auctions which keeps a healthy amount of comic auctions in their market. Their comic auction percentage is still up about 2 percentage points from the previous norm.

eBay has continued to increase their auction population by offering free listing days, flooding the used comics market and eroding the market’s value.

All through December 2011, eBay continued its incentives to encourage auction postings. At one point, there were over 270,000 comic auctions going! I expect next month’s numbers to be back down to normalized numbers – maybe even a bit lower.

eBay just launched an incentive to encourage auctions this week. For a three day span, users are allowed to list up to 5,000 auctions for free. That’s why the number of comic auctions have more than doubled from their normal range.

I finally launched over 2,400 listings in October after months of no listings. That’s why I’ve got a huge jump in my eBay presence this month. Also, the eBay market for comics continues to shrink (down nearly 15% from last year).

This month’s jump in the Sam Kieth category can be attributed to the sale of original art pages from his Wolverine/Hulk series. The used market on ebay continues to shrink! I would assume mostly due to ebay’s new policy of charging fees on shipping charges.
